Job Description

Optomi, in partnership with a premier telecommunications & technology leader, is seeking a Principal Product Designer to join their Innovation Hub . This is a high-impact role for a design leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy, craft, and research —helping transform ambiguous ideas into meaningful products and services.

This is more than just a design role: it’s an opportunity to drive zero-to-one innovation , evolve the design culture of a global company, and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in product and technology.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead design initiatives end-to-end—shaping the vision, strategy, and execution of products from early discovery through launch.
  • Independently direct your own work, operating as a highly trusted individual contributor while mentoring and elevating other designers.
  • Translate nebulous or early-stage ideas into tangible concepts, prototypes, and products (zero-to-one). Even if you’re not the originator of the idea, you’ll be the one bringing it to life.
  • Partner closely with product managers, researchers, and engineers to define opportunities, refine experiences, and align design impact with business outcomes (including both new revenue and cost-saving initiatives ).
  • Balance craft quality (visual polish, usability, communication clarity) with strategic thinking, ensuring designs are not only beautiful but also deeply effective and aligned to user and business needs.
  • Mentor, coach, and influence peers, helping shape design culture and best practices across the Innovation Hub.
  • Contribute to evolving the organization’s approach to design and research, helping establish a more strategic and impactful design culture .

The Right Candidate Will Have:

  • 10+ years of product design experience across digital platforms, with a strong record of leading substantial, strategic projects.
  • Deep expertise in both UX and research practices , including generative/discovery research, concept validation, usability testing, and iteration.
  • Exceptional ability to work independently , self-direct, and set direction while balancing multiple initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence executive stakeholders and cross-functional peers.
  • Proficiency in design tools like Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, InVision, Principle, and Framer.
  • Experience collaborating with product, technology, and research teams in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills—able to convey ideas, decisions, and outcomes clearly and persuasively.
  • Empathy, curiosity, and a deep commitment to user-centered methodologies and design thinking.

Candidates that stand out will have a strong portfolio that demonstrates:

  1. Clear evidence of strategic thinking (business impact, decision-making, innovation).
  2. Ability to explain process and pivotal moments, not just polished final screens.
  3. Role clarity in case studies (how you drove strategy/innovation vs. execution).
  4. Evidence of zero-to-one or transformational work.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience in innovation labs or agency-level design work .
  • Background in visual design, mobile/web apps, machine learning interfaces, or design systems (though your impact should go well beyond system work).
  • Comfort working on revenue-generating and cost-saving initiatives .
  • Track record of mentoring and elevating design teams.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with experience launching MVPs and scaling them into successful products.
